The Trossachs
The Trossachs is considered by many as “Scotland in Miniature”, such is the scenic beauty of this region. The name, Trossachs, means “bristly country” in Gaelic and the appropriateness of this title will soon become apparent when you see the verdant nature of the area!
This part of Scotland has long been popular with visitors thanks to Scotland’s famous author, Sir Walter Scott who based his novels “Rob Roy” and “The Lady of the Lake” in the area. The love that Queen Victoria had for the area also helped to encourage tourism.
The Trossachs forms part of Scotland’s first National Park which was officially opened in April, 2001. The Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park will ensure that the area is managed and developed sensitively so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.
Our journey from Callander will take us into the National Park. We will travel along the banks of Loch Venachar and Loch Achray then have a dramatic drive over the Duke’s Pass to the pretty village of Aberfoyle. We think you will agree that this truly is “Scotland in Miniature”.
